There are many, especially my fellow class mates who are wondering how to receive a text message from outlook when they receive a new email. With this guide I will describe and illustrate the steps needed in order to set this feature up.
Step 1:
Visit Outlook.com and sign in with your email and pass word.

Step 2:
Now that you are logged in, click the Options button in the top right area, shown in figure 1. This will open the Outlook options menu. In this menu click the "Show All Options" shown in figure 2, and this will take you to your options page.
Now that you are viewing the Options page you will need to add your mobile device to your account before you can start receiving notifications on it. This is how we do this.

Step 3:
Click on the "Phone" tab (figure A) found on the left side of the screen, then click the "Text Messaging" tab (figure B). This will bring you to the screen whe5re you will add your cell phone. Once here click the "Turn On Notifications" (figure C). Clicking this will open a pop-up window asking for your country and carrier.

Step 4:
Enter your country and your cell phone carrier. If your cell phone is provided threw AT&T then select AT&T and click Next.
You will then be asked to enter your 10-digit cell phone number and then click Next.
The Outlook service will send you a text message with a numeric code in it, On this screen it will ask you to enter the code it just sent you in the text message.
Enter the pass code and then click Finish. You you entered the correct code, your cell phone is now linked to your Outlook account.
But in order to receive email notifications, you must set up an Outlook Rule that allows this to happen. In the next steps, I will show you how to create a Rule that tells Outlook to notify you threw text messages.

Step 5:
Now that the pop-up window has closed you need to click on "Set up an email notification using an inbox rule" link, (shown as figure 1)
This will bring up another pop-up window in which you can create the rule to do this type of action.
Step 6:
Once the new pop-up window has opened you will need to select "[Apply to all Messages]" from the first box, When the message arrives, and.. (Fig A)Then you will need to select "Send a text message to:" in second box labeled, Do the following, (Fig B)
Then click the Select One link (fig C) this should change to your cellphone number you added earlier.
Then click Save (Fig D).
And that's it!, You should now be able to send a test email your yourself and your phone should ding with a text message from the Outlook service with a brief overview of the email relieved.
To remove your phone number, follow the guide to Step 3, then click the "Delete Settings" link, this will remove your cell phone from your Outlook account.
